Symposiums - Aim and purpose
Within the framework of the project ”The south of the cities” the ITP organises two international symposiums on ”city and neoliberal globalisation”. They are addressed to interested and active people from social movements and aim at starting a globalisation from below. The first symposium under the title ”Who does the city belong to?(Re-)appropriation and struggles against privatisations” takes place in Münster from 16th to 18th of September 2005. It will be focussing on struggles against privatisations from the perspective of autonomy, alternatives and the capacity of action.
The second symposium, ”Citizenship – democratisation of the city” (24th to 26th of February 2006) will examine the city as a ”common” place and the danger of neoliberal appropriation of self-organisations by municipal institutions.
Before each symposium, international experts will take part in visiting programmes, each lasting about a fortnight. They will visit self-organisations and groups in social movements in German cities. The results of these programmes will then be discussed int the symposiums.
